DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Through July 31st, more than 12.6 million tons of waterborne cargo passed through the port of Duluth-Superior which is 13.4 percent below the five season average.
Deb DeLuca, the Seaway Port Authority Executive Director, says July showed signs of a rebound from a slower first half of the shipping season.
She says demand is strong for many of the port’s key cargoes and they are hoping for a second half surge.
In July, over 2.5 million tons of iron ore departed the Twin Ports, bringing the seasonal total to 7.7 million tons.
The Chamber of Marine Commerce says total Great Lakes cargo shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway were down 7.65 percent through July compared to last year’s numbers.
