SUPERIOR, WI (CBS-3) – Superior Mayor Jim Paine has unveiled the city’s 2023 budget proposal.
The budget of 33.7 million dollars is about 1.4 million more than 2022.
The Mayor says it was the most challenging budget he has worked on with investments in green energy, infrastructure and priorities that include raising wages for city staff and increasing the fire and police department budgets.
The budget will also bring down debts owed by the city to under 3 million dollars, the lowest amount owed in a decade.
Paine says with more people living in the city, even though the tax levy has increased, the proposal will not raise taxes for residents.
The City Council will now consider the budget proposal before making a final vote later this year.
A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held on October 18th.
