The first ten minutes of this two-game series could be very, very interesting.
On one side, you have a UMD team that is goalless at level manpower for four straight games. The Bulldogs, who have lost four games in a row, are desperate. Not so much for a win as for some consistency. This could be one of those nights where the coaching staff is in a better mood if UMD loses and plays the game “the right way,” versus winning and not doing the little things.
On the other, we have Cornell. The Big Red have played zero games that count so far. Longtime coach Mike Schafer, who is one win away from 500 in his wonderful coaching career, admitted he doesn’t really know what to expect out of his group, and he didn’t really get anything out of exhibition games last week against Canadian universities (a 5-1 win over uOttawa, then 8-1 against Guelph). Cornell could very well need to get up to speed on the fly, which is a hard way to get up to speed. Or so those who get up to speed tell me.
For UMD, the James Gang has a new bass player, and it’s Luke Loheit. These lines might be placeholders in a sense, thanks to Isaac Howard being suspended for the weekend. He practiced all week, but not on a regular line for reasons that should be obvious.
Lines?
