HAYWARD, WI (KDAL) – North America’s largest cross country ski marathon is being held Saturday from Cable to Hayward in northwest Wisconsin.
The event brings skiers from all around the country and the world for the American Birkebeiner and all the associated races.
The Birkie Expo is underway on Friday along with the skate and classic 29K and also a 15K.
The main event on Saturday includes a 50 and 55K and is part of the Worldloppet circuit that includes 20 international ski marathons.
This week, crews dumped snow along Main Street in Hayward that serves as the finish line for the races.
The 46th annual Birkie is expected to bring around 40 thousand skiers and spectators to the area this weekend.
