SOMEWHERE THAT IS NOT ITHACA, N.Y. — From our downtown Duluth studios, time for some old-school hockey.
Old-school as in the “We did this during the COVID year.”
UMD faces Cornell to kick off a two-game series. UMD coach Scott Sandelin, as you’ll hear in the pregame, was pleased with his team’s five-on-five play Saturday in Bemidji, and he hopes to see more of that this weekend.
(That actually has a double meaning. He wants to see more five on five hockey, which means his team is avoiding a parade to the penalty box. He also wants to see more of the quality five on five hockey he mostly saw on Saturday.)
Seven of 29th-year Cornell coach Mike Schafer’s ten freshmen make their college debuts in this game, including the listed top-line center (Arizona draft pick Jonathan Castagna), and the top right-shot defenseman (Dallas pick George Fegaras).
