DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – An ignitable liquids detection K-9 has been added to the Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office.
The dog, named Jack, recently completed four weeks of training with his handler, Deputy Fire Marshal Adam Casillas.
Jack began his duties on April 1st and is the only K-9 fire investigator in the region.
Jack is able to detect minute traces of ignitable liquids at fire scenes such as gasoline that may have started a fire or contributed to its growth.
Initial funding to bring Jack to the Duluth Fire Department came from State Farm Insurance and State of Minnesota public safety dollars.
Ongoing care is funded through the Fire Department’s operational budget and grants from the Duluth Fire Foundation.
