KELSEY TOWNSHIP, MN (Northern News Now) – After several hours of battling flames, fire crews successfully contained one of the largest Northland wildfires so far this year. The fire was estimated to have burned nearly 60 acres Thursday afternoon.
St. Louis County officials said crews responded to the fire around 1:20 p.m. near Kelsey Township, which is just west of Cotton.
Firefighters originally believed it was close to 100 acres in size, but a new aerial survey showed it was closer to 60 acres.
Three DNR aircraft joined area fire departments in the firefight. Josh Brinkman, the St. Louis County Emergency Manager, said the dry conditions mixed with Thursday’s windy conditions made matters worse.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported
