MADISON, WI (KDAL) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released the 2023 fish stocking numbers for inland waters and the bordering Great Lakes.
Over six million fish were stocked last year to fulfill the quotas submitted by county fisheries biologists.
The largest number of fish stocked in the state’s inland waters was nearly two million walleye and over 251 thousand rainbow trout.
Over 1.3 million Chinook salmon were placed in Lake Michigan and about 175 thousand brown trout into Lake Superior.
The data released by the DNR does not include fish that were stocked by private fish farms, the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service or tribal partners.
