DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Preparation work is underway for the demolition of the former Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
The skywalks that connect to the building will be removed next month and the deconstructing of the building with heavy equipment is expected to take about a year to complete.
An Essentia spokesperson says the impact of the demolition on the community will be minimal with some lane closures around the complex.
When complete, the area will become a temporary green space while a final use is determined.
Essentia believes it would be an ideal location for a UMD Medical School campus.
