DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – Some severe thunderstorms brought large hail, damaging winds and reports of funnel clouds and tornadoes to northeast and central Minnesota Wednesday evening.
A funnel cloud was reported over Ely, and a tornado reportedly touched down in Aitkin County.
There were no reports of any widespread damage in those areas.
Meanwhile on the Range, areas from Cohasset to Chisholm to Virginia were hit hard by quarter to baseball-sized hail. The large hail dented cars and broke windows.
There were also several reports of power outages. Around 7:30 p.m., there were about 7,000 Northeast Minnesota homes in the dark.
As of early Thursday morning Minnesota Power’s outage map showed fewer than 150 customers still without power.
