DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Be prepared for road closures and traffic issues in Duluth during Grandma’s Marathon weekend events.
Canal Park Drive will be closed for finish line setup starting at 6 a-m Friday. Also on Friday at around 5:30 p-m, portions of Railroad Street will be closing during the William A. Irvin 5-K and traffic delays can be expected from Lake Avenue to 5th Avenue West.
Harbor Drive behind the DECC is also closed to traffic due to construction. Most traffic should return to normal Friday evening about 7:30.
On Saturday, Scenic Highway 61 from Duluth to Two Harbors will close to traffic beginning at 4:15 a-m. Special signing and lane closures will also affect traffic on the Highway 61 Expressway Saturday morning.
In Duluth, London Road closes at 5:30 along with Superior Street from 12th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West.
Also closing are the southbound lanes of I-35 from 21st and 26th Avenues East and northbound lanes from Mesaba to 26th Avenue East. Traffic will be diverted up Mesaba to 2nd Street and detours will be marked.
During the race, downtown area DTA buses will use 1st Street in both directions.
Police say motorists in Duluth should be prepared to encounter high traffic volumes and temporary delays throughout the weekend.
There will be long delays in the Canal Park and DECC areas on Friday evening and Saturday.
