DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A storm system that passed through portions of the region late Wednesday afternoon knocked out power for thousands of residents for a time.
The National Weather Service in Duluth noted 56 mile per hour winds at their airport location around 5:30 and other areas also had strong winds knocking down tree branches and power lines.
Lake Country Power said nearly 9 thousand of their customers were without power for several hours.
All available crews were working to restore power and as of late Wednesday there were still 5,000 members in the dark.
The largest outages were reported near McGregor, Lake Vermilion, Moose Lake and between Grand Rapids and Hibbing.
Minnesota Power also reported some outages and 859 customers are still without power Thursday morning.
