DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The staff at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth reports that Pip, a female red panda, was found dead in her den box on the morning of August 2nd.
Pip, short for Pipsqueak, arrived at the zoo in April as part of the Species Survival Plan from a zoo in Massachusetts as a companion to their other red panda, Zoozee.
The death was unexpected as Pip did not show any unusual behavior before going into her den box at 10 p-m on August 1st.
Pip was taken to the University of Minnesota for pathology testing and examination to determine the cause of death.
Lake Superior Zoo Animal Care Director, Lizzy Larson, says “Pip stole the heart of all who cared for her and will be dearly missed.”
