DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule takes effect on Tuesday and runs until April 30th.
It protects eligible residential energy customers from being disconnected from service during the cold weather months.
In Duluth, those who have difficulty in paying their energy bills can contact Minnesota Power to set up a payment plan to avoid any interruption of service.
The Minnesota Energy Assistance Program may also benefit customers who need help paying energy bills and applications for that program are now available at mn.gov/home.
Customers are also advised to beware of scam calls that threaten power shutoffs unless immediate payment is received. Minnesota Power does not call customers for payment and threaten disconnection.
