DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – On Tuesday, federal lawmakers announced that the City of Duluth is receiving $11 million to help repair the historic Aerial Lift Bridge.
The grant, provided through U-S Department of Transportation’s RAISE program, will rehabilitate the Duluth landmark.
Improvements will include replacing deteriorated sections of the bridge, structural repairs, and replacing the sidewalks.
This grant builds on the $1.5 million in total funding secured for the Aerial Lift Bridge’s pedestrian walkways by Minnesota’s U.S. senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, in the last three fiscal years.
City of Duluth leaders call the funding crucial and say they’re grateful for the support.
Congressman Pete Stauber says the “funding will allow the city to make much-needed improvements to ensure residents and visitors alike can continue to enjoy this historic bridge.”
