Nine weekends. Eight series. 16 games.
All in NCHC play.
This is the stretch that will teach us so much about this UMD team. No, eighth place on a nine-team table is not what anyone had been hoping to see this season. But the opportunity exists now to change that. UMD can put itself within striking distance of the midpack of the league with a good weekend against St. Cloud State.
The Huskies are no slouch, having only conceded 37 goals in 18 games, and they’ve been stout defensively even since losing sophomore goalie Isak Posch long-term after he suffered an off-ice injury (head coach Brett Larson termed it a “freak off-ice accident”).
For UMD, Joe Molenaar returns, but Carter Loney, who was participating in practice earlier this week, is out of the lineup for the series opener. We get Scott Sandelin at 5:30 and will update on BlueSky with any information we get. Sucks, because Loney appeared to be turning a corner and playing really well, so fingers crossed it isn’t anything long-term.
