GRAND FORKS, N.D. — An early hole proved too much to dig out of for UMD on Friday night, as North Dakota took a 1-0 lead inside of two minutes elapsed, added to it at the end of the first period, and played opportunistic hockey to beat UMD 4-2 here at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
UMD got goals from Joe Molenaar and Blake Bechen in the second period, but the power play missed on three opportunities with just three shots on goal. Two of those power plays came in the third period with a chance to level the score.
It was the Bulldogs’ seventh straight loss to North Dakota, combined score of 31-10.
To make matters worse, freshman forward Zam Plante was lost in the first period to an upper-body injury. He did not return to the game and will not play in the rematch. I will effort an update from coach Scott Sandelin pregame, and you know where to find me if you’d like that information.
(BlueSky social media as soon as I have info, or our 5:30pm pregame on KDAL.)
Anyway, back to 12 forwards, as Luke Bast draws in on the blue line. As the lines were after Zam was lost Friday, Max Plante back with Dominic James and Blake Bechen. Callum Arnott stays with Jayson Shaugabay. Maybe they can do something that gives us footage for their future reality show.
Klayton Knapp vs TJ Semptimphelter.
