DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A lack of snow and unseasonably warm temperatures this week in Duluth has resulted in moving the start of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon to Two Harbors.
The race that kicks off on Sunday was originally set to begin at Billy’s Bar in Duluth but will move to the Two Harbors check point up Highway 2 to Township Road 24.
Marathon race officials says their team has worked hard to ensure the course up the shore to Grand Portage remains safe for the dogs and looks forward to an exciting race.
The mid distance race will also be starting in Two Harbors.
The other events set for Saturday will continue as scheduled.
The Cutest Puppy Contest at from 11 to 1 at Fitgers will be followed by mini sled dog races.
Vet checks and the opening ceremony will be held Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo House.
A variety of volunteers are still needed and information can be found online at Beargrease.com
