DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) โ The Continuing Resolution funding bill that averted a government shutdown last week resulted in the loss of federal funding for renovations to the the aerial lift bridge and the Lakewood Water Treatment Plant in Duluth.
Both of these projects were listed as key legislative priorities by the city for 2025.
Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert said he feels optimistic about the $18 million renovations coming to the Aerial lift bridge, after securing grants and state funding for the project. As for the Lakeside Water Treatment Plant, he said he will be looking to the state for help in funding the $1.5 million needed for those renovations.
The water treatment plant serves Duluth, Proctor, Rice Lake and Hermantown and the repairs are needed after the EPA mandated Duluth to make water infrastructure improvements that, in total, are expected to cost over $42 million.
