DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The U-S Forest Service will resume prescribed fire operations with select pile burning across the Superior National Forest this week.
There are about 2,000 acres of unburned piles from timber harvest operations, fuel reduction treatments or weather events.
The piles are made up of unusable timber and dense vegetation.
With winter weather approaching, the risk of wild fires is dramatically reduced and the burns throughout the fall and winter will remain flexible to local conditions and concerns.
The Superior National Forest has also taken additional steps to ensure that smoke is managed and that COVID-19 concerns are addressed.
