BAYFIELD, WI (KDAL) – The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore has temporarily closed Outer Island to day and overnight use due to bear activity.
A bear has been frequenting public areas of the island and has exhibited behavior that indicates it has no fear of humans.
Apostle Island officials will re-evaluate the situation on a weekly basis to determine when it might be appropriate to reopen Outer Island to the public.
Visitors to other islands are reminded to make sure that food is safely secured and any bear activity in campsites or other developed areas should be reported to Park Headquarters.
