SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – City and state officials will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday to mark the re-opening of a restored Wisconsin Point to the public.
The City of Superior and the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program used more than 1.5 million dollars in Great Lakes Restoration grants to restore habitat and shoreline over a three year period.
The project also included improved public parking, restrooms, beach access and boardwalks.
Officials of the project worked closely with tribal leaders to preserve culturally significant lands on the point.
Superior Mayor Jim Paine says the restoration project will help preserve Wisconsin Point for generations to come and allow people to see the area as it has been seen for hundreds of years.
The Commemoration Celebration is being held from 11:30 to 1 p-m at the Lighthouse Parking Lot on Moccasin Mike Road.
