HERMANTOWN , MN (KDAL) – A bill introduced Tuesday by Representative Pete Stauber would help end America’s reliance on foreign minerals.
The “Securing America’s Critical Minerals Supply Chain Act” would give incentives to American manufacturers to purchase domestically sourced minerals.
Congressman Stauber says mining is essential to northern Minnesota’s economy and identity and the legislation would empower miners to develop the resources necessary to meet the nation’s security and economic needs.
Currently, U-S manufacturers rely on foreign countries for more than half of the metals and minerals they use.
Stauber says Minnesota is rich in minerals like taconite, copper, nickel and platinum group elements that can be used in everything from medical devices to infrastructure projects.
On the KDAL Morning Show, Stauber says he expects the bill to get a lot of support as it moves forward at the Capitol.
