SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Recently the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) made some educator licensing requirements to address teacher shortages in the state and around the country.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) has responded by changing two of its degree programs and is among the first institutions to receive formal approval for them.
The UWS elementary education major will now lead to a K-9 teaching license and will not require an early childhood education or subject minor.
That will more easily allow students to complete their degree in four years and broaden the grades and subjects the students are licensed to teach.
UWS is also changing its online Education Specialist in Educational Administration program. Beginning September 1st, graduates of the program will receive a PK-12 superintendent license.
While the UWS programs are designed to align with Wisconsin state license requirements, those students applying for licenses in other states should check with that state’s Department of Education to determine if any additional requirements are needed.
