DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Duluth Mayor Emily Larson will mark Human Trafficking Awareness Month with a proclamation in the Powless Cultural Center at noon on Monday.
There will also be special recognition for missing and murdered indigenous women and support for their families. Native women experience the second highest homicide rate in the U-S and are affected by trafficking at ten times the rate of other populations.
Besides the Mayoral Proclamation, the public event on Monday will also feature a round dance with red solidarity shawls and remarks from U-S Senator Tina Smith.
Other events dealing with human trafficking will be held in the area throughout the month of January.
