SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Members of the Superior Fire Department worked on a fire at the Superior landfill late Wednesday.
The fire is being contained with water and heavy equipment operators are positioning the burning garbage where it can be extinguished.
Fires at the landfill have happened in the past and Fire Chief Scott Gordon says it takes several hours to safely put them out.
Public Works employees extinguished the fire by covering it with sand. Firefighters remained on the scene until 7 a-m Thursday monitoring hot spots.
There was some damage to landfill infrastructure but a dollar estimate was not available and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
