ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota forest nursery is in short supply of black spruce seeds and the DNR is offering 70 dollars a bushel for cones.
The black spruce cones are dried and the seeds extracted to provide land managers with the seeds needed to replant about 6,000 acres in the state.
The cones are being accepted from now until the end of February. They can be collected on your property or state forest land and must be high quality, ripe and free of stems and debris.
Contact DNR seed buying stations in Orr, Littlefork, Tower, Two Harbors, Hibbing or Cloquet for information and directions on how to present the cones for purchase.
