UNDATED (KDAL) – Total shipping tonnage this season through the St. Lawrence Seaway was down just under 8 percent from a year ago, due mainly from the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The Port of Duluth-Superior saw tonnage numbers rebound in July with three of the port’s major bulk cargoes registering gains from the previous month.
Grain jumped 54 percent with coal and iron ore also up over June figures.
Despite those gains, total tonnage for the Twin Ports season is down by 29 percent from last year.
Duluth Seaway Port Authority Executive Director, Deb DeLuca says it’s good to see month over month improvements and hopes it is an indication of a production rebound.
