DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – Chelly Townsend is out as the the executive director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, according to DECC Board Director Karen Pionk.
Pionk could not elaborate on the conditions surrounding Chelly Townsend’s departure, saying it is a personnel matter.
“We are celebrating her service and dedication to the DECC,” Pionk said.
Townsend’s contract was up for renewal this month.
Townsend was promoted to executive director in August 2017 after long-time executive director Dan Russell retired. Russell served in the position for 27 years.
Townsend worked in various capacities at the DECC since 1990, including serving as assistant executive director from 2011 to 2017.
In a virtual meeting Wednesday morning, DECC board members nominated Roger Reinert as the Interim Executive Director.
Reinert is a former Duluth City Councilor, Minnesota State House and Senate member, and a current member of the U.S. Navy Reserve.
