Pod play wraps up for the NCHC this week. At the risk of being premature with the praise, we should salute the conference and all who have made this happen in Omaha. The hockey has been great, and the players have stayed safe.
UMD comes off a two-day break following five games in eight days and will be looking for the energy to pick up quickly against “pod host” Omaha. The 4-3 Mavericks are off a 2-0 pseudo-upset of St. Cloud State, where backup goalie Austin Roden stopped all 41 shots he faced, including 18 in the third when SCSU outshot Omaha 18-3.
Head coach Scott Sandelin said he told his players to “flush” Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Colorado College, which was simply the Bulldogs’ first bad day in the pod. Not much went right, and while Sandelin gave the Tigers plenty of credit for that, he did make clear his team’s energy level wasn’t where it needed to be.
Basically, his angle was he wants his guys to learn from it and move on.
Two lineup changes, with forward Jarrett Lee back in for Luke Mylymok on the fourth line, and defenseman Jake Rosenbaum dressed as the seventh instead of Darian Gotz. Ryan Fanti starts in goal yet again, his seventh start in eight games so far.
