SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – A stand-off between Superior Police and a woman tenant at a duplex at 1912 Banks Avenue came to an end around noon on Thursday.
The incident began at 6:25 a-m when officers were called to a neighbor dispute at that location.
According to police, the upstairs tenant had threatened the downstairs tenant with a hammer and a knife and had allegedly bitten the victim.
When confronted by officers, the suspect, holding a lighter, threatened to blow the duplex up and retreated into her residence.
After repeated verbal commands did not get the suspect to peacefully surrender, police deployed 7 rounds of a chemical irritant into her apartment.
Within minutes, black smoke was seen coming from the east upstairs window of the duplex and the suspect jumped from the second story window on the south side of the building.
After being detained by police, the suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Police say the chemical irritant used is non flammable and does not generate heat or flames.
The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene to investigate the origin of the fire.
