DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has laid out the next steps toward eventually clearing pieces of shredded aluminum from the Park Point beach.
The aluminum ended up there when dredged material was placed along the beach to help with erosion issues in fall 2020.
The Corps of Engineers took responsibility but said it wasn’t intentional.
This week, the Army Corps got the go-ahead to survey just how widespread the problem really is.
Lt. Colonel Scott Katalenich says the survey will establish the location, extent, density and depth of the metal can debris both above and below the water line.
Once the survey is finished, a clean up plan will be chosen and presented to the city.
