DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The multi-year Essentia Health Vision Northland project is providing thousands of good paying jobs in the area.
Over half of the trades people working on the 900 million dollar replacement for St. Mary’s Medical Center are members of local unions.
Since ground was broken in September of 2019, more than 750 workers have been onsite. Of those, about 60 percent live in Essentia’s regional market in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
When complete in 2023, the project will have provided more than 5.600 on site construction jobs and 3,600 off site related jobs.
Crews have now reached the top of the 15 story clinic tower and have been installing glass panels to the exterior since January.
They hope to have the building enclosed by early next year.
The project is on schedule and is now about 30 percent complete.
