DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – On Wednesday, the Army Corps of Engineers laid out its plan to cleanup debris left on Park Point beach last year.
The debris includes shredded aluminum cans and glass, picked up during dredging operations and dumped on the beach.
Crews have already been out walking on the beach, picking up debris by hand.
Now, the Corps is hiring a contractor to survey the beach to identify where the remaining debris is concentrated in the highest amounts.
That survey will start within a month.
Besides the cleanup, the Corps is also planning to continue dredging this summer.
Crews will place the dredged material on the beach to fight erosion but with new safeguards in place to prevent a similar problem of debris showing up in the sand.
