UNDATED (KDAL) – Health officials in Minnesota and Wisconsin are urging residents to test their homes for the presence of radon.
Exposure to the colorless, odorless gas is a major contributor to lung cancer and is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers.
This is National Radon Action Month.
In Wisconsin, one of every ten homes in the state has high radon levels and Minnesota radon levels are higher than the national average with two of every five testing higher than normal.
The only way to know if your home has unsafe levels of radon is by testing.
Test kits are available at most hardware stores and from local health agencies.
