DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – In a joint news release, Essentia Health and St. Luke’s are supporting a mask mandate for public spaces in Duluth.
The City Council is expected to consider a proposed emergency ordinance at their meeting on Monday night.
The hospitals say the highly transmissible omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading across the region and threatens to once again “shut down or significantly impact many aspects of our daily lives.”
Wearing a mask reduces the transmission protecting the wearer and those around them.
The news release says COVID-19 is straining resources at hospitals like Essentia and St. Luke’s and wearing a mask is one thing people can do to help health systems to provide the timely care patients expect and deserve.
Another important measure is getting vaccinated since the overwhelming majority of hospitalized COVID patients are unvaccinated.
They also recommend social distancing, staying home when sick and to be tested when symptoms arise.
