DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A several month long investigation by the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force has resulted in criminal complaints being filed against 21 members of a Chicago based drug trafficking organization.
The organization transported large quantities of fentanyl and heroin from Chicago to local dealers in Duluth who sold the drugs throughout the area.
14 members of the organization were arrested earlier this month on various charges in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin and felony arrest warrants were issued for seven others.
The arrests included the leader of the organization, Nicholas Calloway of Chicago, who is now in the Cook County Illinois jail awaiting extradition to Minnesota.
Besides numerous drug charges, Calloway faces robbery and arson charges in Duluth.
During the investigation, between June and December of 2021, the organization was responsible for transporting and selling over 725 thousand dollars worth of a heroin-fentanyl mix.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Tusken says that dismantling a drug trafficking organization of this scale will cause a significant disruption in the supply of opioids in the region.
