DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – An agreement has been reached on the future of Duluth’s Memorial Day parade.
The parade’s future was in question after the City recently announced a higher fee for organizers.
Every year organizers had a verbal agreement to pay a $400 fee but the City had proposed raising that fee to $4,000 to help cut the cost to taxpayers.
The fee would include the cost for police and shutting down city streets for the parade.
The Veteran community had concerns over the higher fee and announced the parade may have to be moved to Proctor or other nearby towns that offered to host the event at a lower cost.
Following a meeting last week, parade organizers, city officials and members of the City Council agreed to cap the fee at 400 dollars each year and change the City Code to reflect that amount.
The parade, on May 30th, runs along Grand Avenue in Duluth and features marching bands, floats, antique cars, and military groups.
