DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith have announced that Duluth will receive 1.25 million dollars as part of a recently signed federal appropriations bill.
Most of the funding, 750 thousand, will be for upgrades to the City’s 911 system and another 500,000 for work on the Aerial Lift Bridge.
According to Duluth Police Chief, Mike Tusken, the 911 funding will be used for three separate initiatives, which will incorporate new software into the system.
The department will enhance its dispatch and case tracking with software called SPIDR-Tech.
The second initiative, Benchmark Analytics, focuses on tracking law enforcement officers, keeping a record of their training, complaints, disciplinary actions.
The third initiative will utilize software called Socrata, which will provide police with real-time analytics to monitor recent crime trends and tracking.
According to Tusken, the software will help his department effectively deploy police and maximize their efficiency in providing public safety.
