DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A man with mental health issues was taken into custody by Duluth Police following a several hour standoff in his vehicle on Monday.
The incident began in the 600 block of East Superior Street when a reporting party said the individual refused to seek help and discharged a firearm toward the tires of the caller.
The man then left in a white pickup truck.
Police later located the man inside the truck in the area of Triggs Avenue and Cleveland Street around 2:15 p-m.
Multiple attempts were made to negotiate a peaceful surrender but the man refused to get out of the truck.
The Police Tactical Response Team then used less than lethal options around 5:30 and took the 37 year old man into custody.
He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then jailed on an initial charge of discharging a firearm in a municipality.
The incident remains under investigation and additional charges could be filed.
