DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Through the month of May total tonnage shipped through the Port of Duluth-Superior trailed the five season average by 18.5 percent.
May’s figures were a 31.8 percent increase over a very slow April.
Duluth Seaway Port Authority Executive Director Deb Deluca says it continues to be a slower than normal start to the shipping season and is hopeful that global supply chain issues will normalize.
The good news is a bump up in containerized cargo. Duluth exported 4,500 tons of kidney beans and two shipments of sugar beet pellets to Europe from the Clure Public Marine Terminal.
Iron ore shipments in May topped April by 30 percent but remains 24 percent below the five year average.
