DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – It was a short reign for the newly designed UMD Champ bulldog costume.
After hearing from students, alumni, fans and supporters, the new version of the mascot, that debuted last week, will be shelved and the old familiar version returns for this school year.
In hopes of finding a suitable replacement, Bulldog Athletics and University Marketing and Public Relations will work with a committee to examine several concepts for the Champ costume.
UMD is currently looking for students, alumni and fans to take part in the process.
The committee will help find a new Champ that honors the tradition of the gray bulldog mascot, that first appeared in 1959, but also considers enhancements like cooling features and aligns with the maroon and gold UMD brand.
