DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Essentia Health and the Marshfield Clinic Health System have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to evaluate how the two organizations might combine to form a larger regional health system.
Essentia, headquartered in Duluth, provides medical services to patients in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
The Marshfield Clinic is based in Marshfield and covers Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
A merger would increase patient access to primary and specialty care with a network of 3500 providers in over 150 sites including 25 hospitals and serve more than two million people across the three states.
Essentia CEO, Dr. David Herman, says the two systems share common values and a mission driven approach to health care.
The Memorandum of Understanding is the first step toward a potential merger.
