DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department has joined the nationwide PulsePoint network.
The app and service supports emergency responders by making it easier for bystanders to help someone in cardiac arrest until medical help arrives.
When a 9-1-1 call is placed for a person with a possible heart attack, an alert automatically goes out to those who have downloaded the PulsePoint app and are in the vicinity.
That person could then provide CPR until first responders get there.
The app also provides information on the location of any nearby Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).
Sudden cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of preventable death with survival chances decreasing from 7 to 10 percent for every minute that passes before help arrives.
PulsePoint is another tool to help first responders and allows people to start providing aid to victims while emergency medical technicians are on the way.
PulsePoint Respond and AED apps are available for download at the iphone App Store and Google Play.
