It’s been 3,647 days since these teams last met in Duluth. Almost ten years to the day.
What’s changed? Just about everything.
UMD has the same head coach (Scott Sandelin), and Dr. Suz Hoppe is still a major part of the ATHLETIC training staff (only now as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance). Chris Garner is still UMD’s equipment manager. And that’s about it.
For Wisconsin, the athletic trainer remains Andy Hrodey, and the hockey SID remains Paul Capobianco. And that’s about it.
(And equipment manager Nate LaPoint. Sorry about the miss, and thanks to Todd Milewski for catching that!)
Should be a good series. Both teams are still trying to find themselves, as are most teams this time of year. It’s just more of a thing when you have eight newcomers (UW) or 12 (UMD) on the roster.
For UMD, freshman forward Ben Steeves returns after missing last weekend in Mankato (lower body). Jack Smith (lower body) remains out, while Zach Sandy (upper body) is again dressed as the third goalie.
Wisconsin has an extra player dressed for warmup, as you’ll see. That will lead to a pregame scratch, so as always I encourage you to follow the Twitter @BruceCiskie for the latest.
