DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Downtown Duluth Task Force has announced several recommendations in key areas that include safety, activation, vision and investment.
The 25 member Task Force was co-chaired by Downtown Duluth President Kristi Stokes and Shaun Floerke of the Duluth-Superior Community Foundation and was comprised of business and non-profit leaders and officials from the City and County governments.
Among the recommendations are adding a City Prosecutor and filling vacant police positions.
Increasing the focus on chronic offenders and holding them accountable, continuing the embedded outreach worker within the Downtown Duluth organization and lobbying for an increase in chemical and mental health services and beds in the state of Minnesota.
The Task Force also addressed panhandling and encampment issues and will not tolerate illegal or aggressive behavior by panhandlers or encampments on public, city owned land.
