COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — It has been 980 days since UMD’s last game in Colorado Springs, a 6-1 win over Colorado College Feb. 29, 2020. The Bulldogs swept St. Cloud State at home the following weekend before the sports world — like most everything else — was shut down.
UMD has not returned here since. The teams met once in the NCHC Pod later in 2020, once at Amsoil Arena in February of 2021, then twice in Duluth last November. The Tigers opened Ed Robson Arena last season, and UMD is the last NCHC team to see it in person.
The Bulldogs will try to build off the successes of last weekend’s sweep of Cornell. They face a Tigers team that is 3-0 at home so far, and one with a lot of quality young talent.
UMD is missing junior forward Luke Mylymok this weekend. He was skating this week, but coach Scott Sandelin declared him out Wednesday, with the expectation Mylymok will be able to return to the lineup next weekend at home against Omaha.
Outside of the James Gang, the lines are jumbled a bit with Isaac Howard back from suspension.
