DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Once again, several Northland schools were hit with so-called “swatting” calls on Thursday.
Calls are made to 9-1-1 indicating active violence at a school which leads to an immediate, large response from police and safety protocols initiated at the school.
This week there have been five swatting calls at St. Louis County Schools including Denfeld High School in Duluth.
The Esko High School in Carlton County was also swatted on Thursday. Other schools across Minnesota were victims of swatting calls earlier this week.
Investigations into the source of the calls is underway by local authorities and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa says the fake calls can potentially disrupt the response to real and pressing public safety emergencies.
