ST. CLOUD, Minn. — It’s the final day of the regular season for the NCHC, and this is the first time in the league’s ten years that the league regular season championship and all four home ice spots were decided before the last weekend, much less the last day.
(I’m excepting the COVID season here. That year, all four home ice spots were determined before the last day of regular season play, but the schedule was very disjointed and weird.)
We know already that Denver will host Miami, Colorado College will head to Western Michigan or Omaha, North Dakota will travel to Omaha or Western, and UMD will come here. It leaves very little to decide on what some leagues around sports label as Decision Day.
(While we know UMD will be here again next weekend, we don’t know if that will be the 4v5 or 3v6 series. If UMD wins this game, it will be the 4v5 for sure. If UMD doesn’t win, it might end up being the 3v6, depending on the result of Omaha at North Dakota, which goes off at the same 6pm start time.)
St. Cloud State already ruled Jack Peart and Ondrej Trejbal out for the weekend, and the Huskies again will dress 13 forwards and the only six available defensemen they have. Same lineup for UMD, so Aiden Dubinsky will miss a third straight game.
