DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The first ocean going ship of the season is due to arrive in Duluth later Tuesday afternoon.
The Marshall Islands flagged “Federal Dart” is carrying a load of cement from Turkey and will be unloading at the CRH-Ash Grove terminal on Rice’s Point in Duluth.
The Tuesday arrival of the Federal Dart would set a record for the earliest arriving “saltie” in the Twin Ports.
Another Fednav ship, the Federal Hunter currently holds the title by arriving on March 30th in 2013.
The time that the Federal Dart passes under the Aerial Lift Bridge will determine the winner of the Seaway Port Authority and Visit Duluth First Ship Contest.
The entry with the closest time will win a variety of prizes including an overnight stay and admission to area attractions.
UPDATE: The Federal Dart arrived at 3:30 p-m setting a new seasonal record as the earliest ocean going vessel.
